American Red Cross and Data-driven Decision Making
The American Red Cross synthesizes many federal, state and local data sources into our RC View system to inform service delivery and streamline reporting on large national disaster relief operations, in everyday response to home fires, and in preparedness efforts for our local communities. Through these efforts, the American Red Cross continues to evolve its data-driven decision-making capability to increase readiness and to better meet our mission: alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. In my role as the Regional Disaster Officer for the Ohio Buckeye Region, I use this tool to overlay social vulnerability indexes on damage and potential damage (in the case of pending flooding) to adjudicate resourcing decisions to get materiel and people to where they will do the most good at the greatest speed.
